On the Patio...

I don't feed the birds because they need me; I feed them because I need them.

Since we've been married (which has only been two whole months) my husband, Mike, and I sit out on the patio in the mornings. The heat isn't bearing down on us yet and we enjoy coffee while watching the birds. We received a squirrel-proof bird feeder and a beautiful glass birdbath as wedding presents which are beautiful additions to the backyard.
Some birds arrive in pairs, some in groups. I've noticed that some are repeaters. There's Bud the Blue Jay. He's kind of a loner and leaves his wife up on the fence. He hops around under the bird feeder looking for the leftovers. Besides, he's so large that he'd probably sway the feeder.
Camille and Charlie are the cardinal couple that frequents the area, but they only show up once or twice a week. I'll report on their behavior later.
The birds easily capture my imagination--each one unique in their habits. But you know, they always prevail. They always find food. They don't give up. Now, I can't speak for all birds, but the ones I know reflect those characteristics.
Why can't people realize that if you just keep working at it....you just might reach your goal. Never give up. God does take care of the birds, but he sure didn't make them lazy!!!
I hope I see the little yellow couple drop by in the morning. Haven't named them yet and I need to look them up in the Audubon Book.
Today, look for a bird in your backyard. Do you have a favorite?
