On the Patio...

On the Patio...

.

I don't feed the birds because they need me; I feed them because I need them.

Since we've been married (which has only been two whole months) my husband, Mike, and I sit out on the patio in the mornings.  The heat isn't bearing down on us yet and we enjoy coffee while watching the birds. We received a squirrel-proof bird feeder and a beautiful glass birdbath as wedding presents which are beautiful additions to the backyard.

Some birds arrive in pairs, some in groups. I've noticed that some are repeaters. There's Bud the Blue Jay. He's kind of a loner and leaves his wife up on the fence. He hops around under the bird feeder looking for the leftovers. Besides, he's so large that he'd probably sway the feeder.

Camille and Charlie are the cardinal couple that frequents the area, but they only show up once or twice a week. I'll report on their behavior later.

The birds easily capture my imagination--each one unique in their habits. But you know, they always prevail. They always find food. They don't give up. Now, I can't speak for all birds, but the ones I know reflect those characteristics.

Why can't people realize that if you just keep working at it....you just might reach your goal. Never give up. God does take care of the birds, but he sure didn't make them lazy!!!

I hope I see the little yellow couple drop by in the morning. Haven't named them yet and I need to look them up in the Audubon Book.

Today, look for a bird in your backyard.  Do you have a favorite?

First Stab at a Writer's Blog

"You want to make God laugh? Tell him your future plans."

First Stab at a Writer's Blog

First things first...My name is Jody Herpin and I am a writer. This isn't my first attempt at a blog, but it is my first "writer's" blog.  I also created one "A Love Story...Stroked," which chronicled the journey I took with my late husband, and of his fight and eventual decline after his stroke.

This is different. I simply want to write about writing!  I've been doing this as a hobby for a long time, but didn't get serious about it until a couple of years ago.  Now, I consider it my business, my career and my passion--all wrapped up in a big, red bow.

Since I began writing, things have changed.  Basically, life. I've gotten older, wiser and continue to learn the craft. I'm sure that I'm better than I used to be, but not near as good as I can be.  Time is the only enemy for a writer, and maybe writer's block. To me, time goes by so quickly when I write, edit or re-write. I'll be on my laptop and look at the clock and not believe that I've been at it for four hours straight with no break. I wonder about my bladder in instances like that. After all, I am a woman of a certain age.

A little about me...

I am a wife to a wonderful man, whom I just married two months ago.

I'm not young, let's just leave it at that.  And, yes, I've been married before. I was a widow before I got married this time. You know, the husband that had the stroke. I was only married to him for one year. Believe it!  I have two fantastic grown children and six grand kids. Of course, they are all beautiful and talented. Really, they are.

Currently, my novel is a work in progress. Still brainstorming the title. The story is about a middle-aged woman who goes through a divorce, who deals with challenges and her own insecurities in order to move on with her life. I'll come up with a better one line blurb later. It's funny in spots, although it is realistic.

I like it. Don't you think an author should like what he or she writes? Of course.

I love women's fiction. Right now, I'm reading the new book by Jane Green, "Tempting Fate."

If you've read it, tell what you think.

More to come....
